BOOK REVIEW: VANISH (TESS GERRITSEN)
Tess Gerritsen is rapidly becoming one of my favourite authors.
The book starts with the gripping tale of illegal child immigrants who think they are coming into the USA to stay with a family and have a new life, but they're not. They're being sold into the child sex slave trade, held in a child whorehouse while sick, rich punters come over and do what they need to do.
The focus then switches to a morgue where a beautiful woman has been found drowned and pronounced dead. Only she isn't. She is about to have an autopsy performed on her when she wakes up. Eventually, the woman goes mad and takes hostages in a hospital with an accomplice, with journalists all around wanting to get closer to the situation and get the scoop story. But there is only one the hostage takers will talk to.
Homicide detective and heavily pregnant Jane Rizzoli is on the case, despite being on the verge of giving birth and sooner or later, the evil plot behind the child sex trade is uncovered and the guilty parties brough to justice.
A great read and an excellent thriller. A bit silly with the pregnancy thing, but generally an intriguing read.
