BAD BAD NEWS

Stopped at the traffic lights close to home yesterday morning, I glanced in my rear view mirror to see a sight that was to set the tone for the rest of the day. There, sitting in the driver's seat was a chubby man with his finger rammed right up one nostril. Unaware that I was watching him, he pulled out his prize, examined it on the end of his finger, then popped it in his mouth.

So that was a less than pleasant start to the day and there was a less than pleasant end too. ITV, on Friday nights, is running the James Bond series in what seems to be reverse order and last night was the Roger Moore epic 'For Your Eyes Only'. 'Great film' I thought to myself, as I refilled my glass of wine, got comfortable on the sofa and settled myself down for a nice evening.

Car chases, gun-fights every two minutes, fist-fights every thirty seconds, Bond girls throughout and as the film progressed, 'For Your Eyes Only' was building up to a fantastic climax.

Only then ITV decided that, right in the middle of an action-packed Bond, they would have the News. WHAT IS THE POINT? Why do they have to ruin the end of a perfectly good film with a news update that they could very well have thirty minutes later. It's ridiculous. The news is not going to change in that thirty minute spell and all ITV achieves by such an interruption is to ruin the atmosphere of their Friday night film.

Is it because they have to have the news at a certain time every night during the week? If so, why the hell are they running a film that overlaps that schedule? Why not cancel some of the crap that precedes it and stick the film on half an hour earlier? This is the 21st century and ITV can't even let a film run full-length without having a news update. That's just lunacy. It's bad enough having the adverts inserted every so often, but at least that gives you the chance to get another beer or have a pee.

Do us all a favour ITV, stop ruining the suspense of your Friday night film, it doesn't do anyone any good.

I might send this rant to Points of View. At least there are no news interruptions in THAT programme...

I quite agree!!!
To me it's just as bad as taking the swearing out of the Osborne's and putting bleeps in its place! Honestly, in the 21st century you would think they'd know every child knows the f-word!!

at least with bleeps you know the gist of what is going on - with a half hour break during Bond, you lose all sense of atmosphere, urgency and, occasionally, plot

I agree. Its a complete load of arse. They did the same when they showed Titanic. I was so enraged I switched to BBC. Never did find out if it sank or not.
