BUY IT, SELL IT, LOVE IT

Fantastic! It bloody works! Woo hoo! Why am I excited? Read on...

At the Renault Nissan alliance party at the end of January, I took part in a game of Scalextric (holding a remote control and guiding a toy car around a race track) and won the race. My prize was a Nissan 'Z' baseball cap, which was of no use to me since I do not wear head gear of any sorts. So, in order to create the tiniest bit of space in my freezing cold bedroom, I decided that I'd stick it on E-Bay and see how it fared.

Having been a buyer on E-Bay for a year or so, I knew that E-Bay sends emails when you've been outbid. Obviously this is from the point of view of a buyer and I had no experience of being an E-Bay seller. Since this was the first item I had ever auctioned on the site, I therefore had no idea that E-Bay doesn't email you when there has been a bid on your item. You can imagine my surprise and sheer delight, then, when I checked the 'endofauction' email from E-Bay this evening, expecting to see that the item had had no bids and remained unsold, only to find that some lovely individual had offered me £6.50 for it!

Utterly splendid! Clearly I am now hooked and will attempt to offload a vast number of items that are of no use to me and see how much cash I can raise.

Hats off to E-Bay! (Get it... hats off ... baseball cap ... no?)

It appears your cap was the subject of fevered bidding too:

£6.50?!?!

yep. Cost me nothing, sold it for pure profit. I'm a business man.

Hmmm....either that or there are some odd people out there.

Although, there was this programme on BBC1 where they literally managed to sell old rope.

Seems people will buy anything.

I saw that programme! It was the Money Programme (BBC2 I think). That was my inspiration to get off my butt and sell some stuff. It bloody works! Have fun AND make some cash! Utterly splendid.

Utterly. Although I've found the worst part of Ebay is the packaging of your sold item. However I tried to wrap a stack of 100 CDRs on a spindle, the recipients still complained.

I have recently bought a tie-rack and a an album from e-bay, extremely brilliant...

I shall now attempt to sell old dvds, and bottles of wine from the spar!

Incredible - I have two Renault F1 caps that are about to go the same way, one having being 'signed' by Fernando Alonso. Did you know that there are around ten thousand people in the UK who claim their full time occupation is buying and selling on ebay...

'Signed'...hmmm...did you just take to the hat with a marker pen?

Posted by: Salina at March 11, 2005 2:28 PM

you saw the money programme that night too then Mark....

and Salina... how did you know about the false Alonso thing? Were you secretly spying on us when I signed it for him....?

The quotation marks may have helped a bit....

Posted by: Salina at March 12, 2005 12:36 AM

good deduction. I have now officially been put in my place!
