WEATHER AND WASHING
Last weekend was hot, so our doddery old neighbour decided that summer had arrived and that she would turn the heating off for the entire property for the next six months (I live in one separate side of an old farm cottage and she controls the heating).
A couple of days later, there are floods in London and people are wearing thick coats once more, but does she turn the heating on? OH no, so here we are shivering in our own home because the evil witch next door is too tight to turn on the heating. Still, at least she's moving out in September, unless she dies first.
So I decided to do some washing - ten pairs of Calvins and several pairs of socks. The washing machine broke. But not only did it not finish the cycle, it stopped and refuses to drain the water out. I have therefore spent the last hour doing an African washerwoman impression - carrying my clothes outside to the garden and wringing them until they are only moderately dripping and then leaving them to dry. Only I do not have the African sun beating down on my sodden clothing, I've merely got good old English drizzle.
They say bad luck comes in threes, I wonder what's next.....
