EASYWORLD GIG 2

According to Dictionary.com, 'Talent' is defined as "a person who possesses an unusual innate ability in some field or activity". Multiply this by three, stick it under a retro/alternative/punk-rock umbrella and you have Easyworld.

ULU was the final venue of the three month-long 'Kill The Last Romantic' tour and it was clear from the start that Easyworld were intent on finishing the tour on rather a large high. The sheer energy, enthusiasm and multi-instrumentation of Dav Ford from the word go was awe-inspiring - guitar, piano, harmonica, mandolin and even a trombone, not to mention lead vocals. Give the guy something remotely resembling an instrument and he'll play it, and he'll play it bloody well.

Combine this with Gavin Hooper's superbly manic drumming and Jo Taylor's cool pluckings on the bass guitar and what is produced is a vacuum pack of solid, air-tight, powerful sound. Dav's introductions to the crowd are honest and heart-felt, getting the reaction they deserve and the ensuing songs are personal accounts of life, incorporating death, hope, sadness and joy, each filled with vivacious, dynamic, raw vocals.

'Goodnight' as the last song of the pre-encore was chillingly brilliant, with Dav playing piano and guitar at the same time (quite how God only knows) and stunning us all with the line 'play back this tape I swear you'll see'. Easyworld are an excellent night's entertainment, and with Dav using the microphone as slide on his guitar to introduce their punk-rock finishing classic 'You and Me', the crowd erupted and all hell broke loose.

"It is a happy talent to know how to play" (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Those of you that had the option to go but declined, you are clearly mad. This was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

Biased is described as 'A preference or an inclination, especially one that inhibits impartial judgment'

'Mad' on the otehrhand is not described as 'the mental state of someone that didn't go to an Easyworld gig'

it's called opinion. It's a review of a band. Is there a problem?
