JOHN MAYER GIG
I have just realised that up until now, I had forgotten to give a brief write-up of the John Mayer gig at the Hammersmith Apollo last Wednesday. Many of you UK readers will probably not be familiar with the name John Mayer, but certainly our bagel-guzzling American friends will have heard of him.
I'll keep to the point. He was very very good indeed. He was even quite funny when talking on the mic.
The only bad thing about the evening was the horrendous swamp-donkey that was standing next to me, shrieking every five seconds, woo-hooing during the quieter moments and shouting all the words with no hint of timing, musical talent or tone throughout the entire evening. I wouldn't let her ruin my night, Spurs had already tried with their embarrassing second half display against Man City, but she was not going to ruin it for me. Whenever she got near, she got an elbow. So much so that even Debbie dug one in every now and again!
Fair enough, everyone at the gig has a right to enjoy themselves - but at the detriment of others? If it had been me, I would have had more consideration for fellow gig-goers and I would have refrained from shouting in people's ears, but then again I'm not a fat northern scally midget with about as much musical ability as tube of toothpaste.
John played almost every song from his new album 'Heavier Things' (which is rather good) and also my personal favourite 'Saint Patrick's Day', as the finale in the encore. He's very talented man. Truly marvellous.
