FOOTBALL MATCH

I'm not a superstitious guy and I don't usually believe in fate, but what happened this evening is a smidgen mysterious.

We arrived at the ground for our last football match of the season and the manager dumped the kit box on the changing room floor. Now, as you may have noticed, 14 is my number - not for any superstitious reason, just that it's the day of my birthday and David Ginola wore 14 for Spurs. I flipped open the box and saw all the clean red shirts inside. They were folded from the front, so that all the numbers were invisible. I sifted through them, one by one, without looking at the numbers and picked up the one that gave off the right aura, sure enough when it opened out, the bold white number 14 lit up the room. A coincidence? Possibly.

We were up against the league leaders and it was my very last match for the club. Could it have been fate, then, when I crashed home the winning goal four minutes from time? Possibly. Who knows.....?
