NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS 2009 MARCH TO AUGUST UPDATE
September 24th, 2009 Posted in Personal Eventsahem. I’ve missed a few of these haven’t I. Well, I’ve missed most of the year really, but let’s not split hairs – life is there to be lived, not tapping every single event into a computer (Twitter users take note).
So here’s an update on where I am with the whole ‘2009 objectives’ thing… see if you can spot what’s new in the last six months…

- buy a new computer: ON COURSE
with Simon’s help, I’ve managed to identify the laptop that I’d like. The only problem being that it costs a rather staggering £1,000 and that’s AFTER staff discount!
- exercise at least twice a week: ON COURSE
ummm… well. I ran the ASICS London 10k on Sunday 12th July in 46 minutes and 36 seconds. My aim was to run it in 45 minutes and all my training indicated that that should not have been a problem.
However, such is my luck… I got a chest infection the week before the race and as an asthmatic, it hit me hard. But determined as I can be, I ran anyway. Combine the effect of the illness with God knows how many other thousand runners, the majority of whom were slower than me and all under my feet and in the way, causing me to constantly zig zag, and you’ll understand why I was short of my target. Still, I raised over £400 for Cancer Research UK so thanks to everyone who sponsored.
I’m doing the London Marathon in April…
- sell a t-shirt: ON COURSE, although no closer than this time last year
- give up BUYING crisps: ON COURSE
- have a holiday abroad: ACHIEVED
I went to Spain with my housemate Dee and some of her friends and got drunk for four nights. Even managed a tan. Tremendous fun and must be done again.
- go to the Science Museum: ON COURSE
- go to the Natural History Museum: ON COURSE
- go to the Tower of London: ON COURSE
- go to Madame Tussauds: ON COURSE
- go to the Sherlock Holmes Museum: ON COURSE
- organise a university reunion: ON COURSE
- work-related objective: ACHIEVED!

Good work. I should set myself some targets really. Probably involving those t-shirts…

yes, and I should stop reading books. That way I might actually achieve some of the other things on my list!
