From the sublime to the ridiculous

PICK ME UP

May 13th, 2007 Posted in Amusing Events

“You’re single aren’t you Jack?” Ben asked me one day when we were at work. “Yes, why?” I responded, inquisitive as to the reason for the question.

At that point, I was put in touch with a friend of Ben’s at IPC Media who then emailed me a few questions to answer for her Pick Me Up Please feature, so I sent back my responses and a particularly bad photo. I didn’t tell a soul.

Then, about six weeks later, I sent out a copy of the April 12th edition of Pick Me Up magazine, anonymously, to each person in my close social circle. Here is the article:

IPC Media told me that they would forward all enquiries to me, with photos. I was hopeful that, considering that the magazine is called Pick Me Up and that the readership reaches half a million people per issue, there might just be a flicker of interest. How many enquiries were there? How many declarations of interest? None. Zilch. Zero.

I am now planning my suicide.
