DO THE MATHS
April 4th, 2007 Posted in Amusing EventsMark went into Putney to buy a protractor for a project he is working on. The stationery shop, however, was closing down and was consequently discounting most items.
Individual protractors were not available but instead there was a four-piece geometry set containing a protractor, ruler and two set squares.
“Just that please” he said to the assistant, placing the geometry set on the counter and rummaging around his pockets for loose change. “That’ll be one pound twenty-nine please sir.” Mark was all set to hand over the cash when the assistant inexplicably added “or you can buy five for a pound.”
So, the assistant, working for a company that’s about to close down, had actually managed to cost his bosses a further 29p and give away another four sets of protractors, potentially worth five pounds 16p. It’s no wonder the company is going out of business.
