From the sublime to the ridiculous

I have been enquiring about a camcorder from a well known manufacturer under their staff sales scheme and once again corporate divisionism and lack of internal communication get the better of customer service.

I phoned “Product Information” on the number that “Staff Sales Enquiries” provided me. Now, one would assume that the “Product Information” department would have the INFORMATION on the PRODUCT about which I was enquiring.

“I understand from Staff Sales Enquiries that this product is being discontinued” I said to the man on the other end of the phone, who then let me sample the intriguing man-blows-whistle-over-funky-beat on-hold music for a number of minutes. “I’m sorry, we don’t have information on that product” he eventually replied and was rather confused when I informed him that the Staff Sales Enquiries department had written me an email saying that the product had been discontinued and would be replaced by another product, that my local retail store had confirmed this and that I should contact Product Information for exactly that, product information.

So, ultimately, neither department seems to know what is going on with this product, and information, where it is available, is contradictory.
