PAINTED IN IRONY
January 20th, 2006 Posted in Cars, RantsIt dawned on me today that my doing my job is the very definition of irony. Alanis Morissette thought she had irony pinned down when she penned ‘Ironic’, citing circumstances such as “ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife” and “rain on your wedding day”, as well as telling the story of a man who had a fear of flying but took his first aeroplane flight and “as the plane crashed down he thought ‘well isn’t this nice’”. Morissette was shot down because her definition of ‘Ironic’ was, in fact, nothing more than a description of unfortunate events.
But me doing the job I am doing is the definition of irony. I am the Product Manager for a brand of car paint, so I am involved in marketing this paint brand to the UK market, deciding where to install new paint machines, which products to put on periodic promotion etc etc. I am the point of contact for the whole UK field team and I am partly responsible for developing the brand and gaining market share.
So what? Where’s the irony? Well, it’s as simple as this:
I am colourblind.

I’m not colour blind. Well done me. So you’re bald and blind eh?

I am not bald, it’s just that my hair retention rate is not as higher as other people’s. Also, I am not blind, it’s just that my brain cannot distinguish between certain colours. This is probably due to the enormous quantity of little grey cells living in my head, giving me my outstanding mental agility. Well, I THINK they’re grey…

Does that mean that when I next play you at pool I can convince you to go for the red every time you play for the black and therefore win?! your thoughts….
