ALCOHOL INTOLERANCE
July 31st, 2005 Posted in UncategorizedBack in my student days, I could easily go out at night, drink eight pints of lager and be up early the next day without too much of a hangover. Sure, I’d be a bit tired from a drunken night’s sleep, but rarely did I have anything more than a headache.
Age, though, is beginning to show. Regular readers will be aware of my battle against a receding hairline and I have noticed early signs of senility - not putting on the handbrake when parked on a hill, consistently forgetting where I have put my keys and an irrepressible desire to put my slippers on. But it’s with alcohol that I am growing most concerned, for last weekend I woke up at 1.30am (Friday night) on the sofa, still fully clothed with all the lights on; at 3.45am on the sofa, still fully clothed with all the lights on and the television blaring; and last night (after a trip back to Cranleigh to celebrate James Hunter’s first birthday) I woke up to be informed later by mother that I had:
a) left chocolate bar wrappers all over the kitchen floor
b) left the kitchen light on all night
c) left a pint of Ribena on the worktop with all due spillages still present
d) left the fridge door open all night
and all that after only about five pints and a sip of Czechoslovakian home-made vodka.
Still, at least I didn’t fall asleep walking home. Or did I?

Yes you did. Don’t you remember us coming to find you after you didn’t answer your phone? We took you home, and recommended you eat some chocolate bars and water down the alcohol with some Ribena…

so let me get this straight. In your drunken state, you walked at least a mile to try to find me when I could have walked off in any number of directions (eg the Glebelands incident Shunta) and then you walked me a further half mile home where you insisted I eat chocolate and drink Ribena, and then you walked a mile and a half back to Shunta’s? Whilst drunk?

Precisely. No recollection?

With all that walking, it’s no wonder you maintain such a figure
