From the sublime to the ridiculous

RE-OPENED MIC

March 27th, 2005 Posted in Uncategorized

Open Mic night returned to the Cranley Hotel last night as part of the Easter celebration, in combination with Shaun H’s 20th birthday - the first time Open Mic night has occurred in the Hotel for just over a year. Thinking that I was still in Venice, it came as a bit of a surprise to Shaun, and indeed music man Sparky that I turned up, but what promised to be a debauched night turned out to be exactly that.

After murdering several songs and being harassed by a pikie, Drambuie, Sambuca, Jack Daniels, Scotch, Foster’s and Beck’s all flowed and I have a very hazy recollection of the latter part of the evening. Still, I remember Shunta falling over and taking two stools with him, I can remember singing George Formby’s ‘I’m a W*nker’ to the entire pub and I seem to recall giving Shaun the bumps and a consequential bout of concussion.

What I can’t remember, however, is leaving the pub, getting back to Shunta’s, having ‘PRICK’ written on my forehead in permanent marker AGAIN, and having my nails on my left hand painted in a lovely ruby red AGAIN. Still, I managed to stumble back home around 4am and pass out. Just like the old days.
