From the sublime to the ridiculous

HOCKEY

May 25th, 2004 Posted in Uncategorized

And so my hockey revival continues. The last time I consecutively played hockey was in my final year at school in 1997 when I sustained a nasty facial injury which kind of put me off a bit. I played three games for the Old Cranleighans two years ago, but could never play regularly due to football committments.

Now I am back, and playing for Birkhampstead (spelling?) MIXED hockey team. Last week was my first game for two years and also my fourth game in seven years, so I was very much out of practice. Fair enough I almost died from lack of fitness but I wasn’t displeased with my virgin right wing performance, although we lost 3-0.

This week I volunteered to go up front and strike for the team. We lost again (7-4), but I scored twice and thoroughly enjoyed it which has inspired me to carry it on…..after I get back from holiday…..
