From the sublime to the ridiculous

MARMITE

August 8th, 2002 Posted in Uncategorized

I was running late this morning and I had no time to make my sandwiches, so instead I grabbed the bread and the ham, stuffed it in my bag and headed off to the office. We are usually quite well off for supplies at work and finding something to snack on when you feel the urge is normally pretty easy.

So, when lunchtime today came round, I opened my bag, took out the ham and the bread and went to the office fridge to find the butter. I took out the tub and looked inside. Somebody had very kindly put an empty tub of butter back in the fridge. Consequence - no spread for my sandwiches. Bugger, I thought and I frantically looked around for something that would substitute. I looked high and low, in the fridge, in the cupboard, under my desk. Nothing. So what did I use to substitute butter? What was it that I had to spread on my bread? What was it that I found that would complement my ham to make a tasty sandwich? Yep, you guessed it - MARMITE.

I am currently feeding pieces of sandwich to the dog.
