From the sublime to the ridiculous

TENNIS TANTRUM

May 25th, 2002 Posted in Rants, Sport

I’m not the biggest fan of tennis, I’ll admit that right away, but I’ll always cheer on the British hopes in any tournament in any sport, so when the Wimbledon Tournament comes around each year, I’ll always join in Henmania and follow the fortunes of the hopefuls.

HOWEVER, I happened to be watching a random doubles match the other day and it wound me up something chronic.

WHY IS IT THAT AFTER EVERY BLOODY POINT, THE DOUBLES PARTNERS HAVE TO TOUCH EACH OTHERS HANDS??!

WHAT IS THE POINT?

They don’t even make an effort either. There’s no high five or whooping, just a soppy, limp stroke of a hand. Some people might say it’s bonding and encouragement, but I say that’s bollocks. THERE IS NO NEED FOR IT. If their partner has done well, why don’t they bloody tell him/her and stop standing around stroking each others hands. For CRYING OUT LOUD, it is so unnecessary. BUT THEY DO IT EVEN IF THEY LOSE THE POINT.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

There we go, tantrum over.
